This was certainly the case when in his final year of high school, he expressed an interest in medicine to the family GP and was advised to consider a more attainable career goal.“He told me that medicine was difficult and probably not for me, and I resolved there and then that I would prove him wrong,” Dr Nkgudi recalls. He went on to do just that and in a decisive fashion. After matriculating from South African College High School, Cape Town in 2002, he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Cape Town in 2008.
